Malaysia

Malaysia - Is officially known as the Federation of Malaysia. Malaysia is an Asian Country and shares borders with Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea. Great Britain established colonies and protectorates in the area of current Malaysia; these were occupied by Japan from 1942 to 1945. In 1948, the British-ruled territories on the Malay Peninsula formed the Federation of Malaya, which became independent in 1957. As an oil and gas exporter, Malaysia has profited from higher world energy prices, although the rising cost of domestic gasoline and diesel fuel forced Kuala Lumpur to reduce government subsidies. Archaeological remains have been found throughout peninsular Malaysia. The Semang have a deep ancestry within the Malay Peninsula, dating to the initial settlement from Africa over 50,000 years ago.
