Thai Fruits


Thailand is a country that many people in this world known as the "LANDS OF SMILES" and Thailand is a land of tropical fruits as the country is blessed with a myriad of delicious tropical and temperate fruits which only vary depending on the season. No matter when you come to Thailand, or whatever part of the country you visit, you will find fresh fruit on every street you walk which choice that you want. Generally Thai fruits are sweet including those which are traditionally sour.




MANGOSTEEN

Mangosteen is the Queen of Tropical fruits, Southern Thailand is the best place for growing Mangosteen. But now some province near to Bangkok name Chanthaburi can grow mangosteen but have to take a good care of them when they are young. Mangosteen have dark purple skin with sweet white fruit inside and aromatic. A knife it’s use to slit the skin around the middle, after open easily for eat (Some, if skin not hardly you still easily use your hands) Beginning from May till September.


DURIAN

Durian is the King of Thai fruits, weight about 2-5 kgs, the mature of Durian is golden. Beginning in May and extending till August. The best of Durian are from some province (Eastern and Southern) in Thailand name Rayong, Trat, Prachin Buri, Chantaburi, Suratthanee and Chumpon. The strong aroma usually prevents visitors from trying this soft, golden, yellow fruit that is eaten by pinching it open. Many foreigner from America, UK and Australia turn up their noses to the scent of Durian but once they taste it they have a whole new perspective on it. The unusual flavour and odour of the fruit have prompted many people to express diverse and passionate views ranging from deep appreciation to intense disgust.



PAPAYA

Main material of "Som-Tum" a spicy green papaya salad. Ripened fruit should be eaten with fresh lime squeezed on top. Papaya grow up all over of Thailand available all year and not need to take care of them. Nutritional value with high Vitamin A and Vitamin C. The ripe fruit is usually eaten raw, without the skin or seeds. The unripe green fruit of papaya can be eaten cooked, usually in curries, salads and stews. It also has a relatively high amount of pectin, which can be used to makes jellies.
Papain is also popular as a topical application in the treatment of cuts, rashes, stings and burns. Papain ointment is commonly made from fermented papaya flesh, and is applied as a gel-like paste. Harrison Ford was treated for a ruptured disc incurred during filming of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom by having papain injected into his back.
Did you know, Women in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and other parts of the world have long used green papaya as a folk remedy for contraception and abortion.




PINEAPPLE

Mostly from South Thailand and some from North of Thailand, Chiangrai and Lampang have unique varieties. Beginning in April - June , December – January, colour dark green on the outside and with light yellow flesh that can taste both sweet and sour. Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain, which breaks down protein. Pineapple juice can thus be used as a marinade and tenderizer for meat. The enzymes in pineapples can interfere with the preparation of some foods, such as jelly or other gelatin-based desserts.
