Uzbekistan - Is officially known as the Republic of Uzbekistan. In November 2005, Russian President Vladimir PUTIN and Uzbekistan President Karimov signed an "alliance," which included provisions for economic and business cooperation. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, "the government is hostile to allowing the development of an independent private sector, over which it would have no control". Thus, the national bourgeoisie in general, and the middle class in particular, are marginalized economically, and, consequently, politically.
