Georgia - Is officially known as the Republic of Georgia and was once part of the former Soviet Union. Georgia is an Asian Country and shares borders with the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Black Sea. Independence was restored in 1991 and like many post-communist countries Georgia suffered from the economic crisis and civil unrest during 1990s. The new leadership has established efficient government institutions, reformed the economy and guiding the country through a period of the fastest economic growth in its history. Georgia is rich in architectural history dating beyond medieval times.
