Early roots of Jordan as an independent state can be traced back to The Kingdom of Petra, which was founded by The Nabataeans, an ancient Arabic Semitic people. Jordan is rich in history and culture along with it's sacred Jordan River, make it a wonderful travel destination. Jordan still has insufficient supplies of water, oil, and other natural resources. Poverty, unemployment, and inflation are primary issues, but King ABDALLAH II, since assuming the throne in 1999, has provided some broad economic reforms in a long-term effort to improve living standards.
